Calls for funding proposals 2019
You can now apply for funding from the Swedish Research Council for Sport Science for 2019. The total sum to be distributed is approximately SEK 21 million.
Applications may be for:
- Project funding
- Funding for post-doctoral researchers
- Funding for associations, collaboration and networking
- Funding for projects in collaboration with The Swedish Sports Confederation (Riksidrottsförbundet, RF)
Applications for research funding from the Swedish Research Council for Sport Science (Centrum för idrottsforskning, CIF) are made once a year. The application system for the next financial year (2019) closes on Monday the 17th of September 2018 at 5 PM (CET). Please note that we accept only on-line applications. A new requirement in 2018 is that the application should be electronically signed using bankID and that has to be done before the system closes on 17th of September at 5 PM.
Sports science may include all areas of research and all applications must be clearly relevant to sport. The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science’s definition of relevance to sport can be read here Definition of relevance to sport. The application must state the reasons and considerations the project has for studying women and/or men.
Applicants who have previously received project funding or have held a salaried position over a stipulated period of time, and where this period has expired, must have made their final report by 17 September 2018 at the latest. To be eligible for new funding for 2019, a final report and financial accounts must have been presented.
Of special interest are research projects focusing on sporting excellence and research into sports for children and young people. Both types of projects are prioritised as long as they are of sufficient quality. We also welcome projects which are the result of discussions with Swedish sports federations and associations.
The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science can grant funds up to a maximum of 400,000 SEK per year. Project funding is for one year. Project funding is administered by the academic institution to which the applicant belongs. It can be used at any time from January 2019 and over the following two years.
We welcome applications for multi-disciplinary projects and for projects involving national and international collaboration.
Funding for post-doctoral researchers
The applicant shall have received a PhD degree at some time in the previous seven years. The grant is 450,000 SEK per year. The granting of salary is one year at a time and may be extended after acounting and renewal for a maximum of four years.
Funding for associations, collaboration and networking
Funding may be awarded to Swedish federations or associations working to create favourable conditions for collaboration between researchers, or networks between researchers and other parties involved in sport science research. The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science regards new research constellations and forums favourably. Financial support may, for example, be awarded for arranging conferences and seminars where research findings within sport science are presented or discussed.
Funding for projects in collaboration with The Swedish Sports Confederation (Riksidrottsförbundet, RF)
In co-operation with the Swedish Sports Confederation, an announcement of research grants with a focus on the Strategy 2025 is being conducted. The research project will provide a knowledge contribution to development in the strategic areas: lifelong sports, the value base of sport and sport in common. RF allocates a total of SEK 1,200,000 for 2019. The applicant can apply for funds from CIF and RF for the same project and can receive grants from CIF and 400,000 SEK from RF. Separate rules and instructions apply to this announcement. Scientific review is made by CIF and decision on allocation is made by RF. For more information in English please contact Jenny Svender at the Swedish Sports Confederation email@example.com.
Decisions on funding
The final decisions on the distribution of funding are made on the 29th of November 2018, and the announcement is published the day after on the website www.centrumforidrottsforskning.se . Letters about the awarding of funding and contracts are sent out in December. The recipient then signs and returns the contract. The funds are paid to the relevant academic institution in January and September 2019, in two equal sums.
