The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science has the mandate to initiate, coordinate and support sport research and being responsible for monitoring state aid to sport In Sweden. The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science should also create conditions which facilitate collaboration between researchers at universities and colleges and others involved in this area.

CIF is located at the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences in Stockholm.

The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science has been assigned the task of initiating, coordinating and supporting sport research, for providing information and being responsible for monitoring state aid to sport. The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science should also create conditions which facilitate collaboration between researchers at universities and colleges and others involved in this area.

The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science is the only organisation in the field of sport and physical activity in Sweden with the requisite expertise and experience, both of research and the monitoring of state aid. The organisation works closely with sports federations and the Swedish Sports Confederation (Riksidrottsförbundet, RF).

Operations of the Swedish Research Council for Sport Science are financed partly by the Ministry of Culture through the Swedish Sports Confederation and the Ministry of Education and Research. A large proportion of the Swedish Research Council for Sport Science’s revenues are used for research funding.
