The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science (CIF) is funding research by announcing grants through a ´bottom-up´process.  All applications must clearly demonstrate relevance to sport, and a broad definition of sport is used. Sports research can be conducted in any scientific field. Researchers at Swedish higher educational institutions are eligible to apply for these grants.

Every year, three types of grants are announced: project grants, postdoctoral grants, and grants for organisations, networks and cooperation.
