The signed conditions received from CIF specify the period within which a grant can be utilised (the availability period). This information is also available in the grant management system.

CIF may allow an extension of the availability period under the following circumstances:

  • Parental leave or illness of the grantee or for a critical employee involved in the project.
  • Exceptional circumstances, beyond the control of the grantee or the administrating organisation, that have affected the ability to conduct the research on time, such as the coronavirus pandemic.

The main applicant must request an extension during the current availability period.

Important information

  • Submit your application at least some weeks before the last day of the availability period – the decision has to be taken before the grant period has expired.
  • Clearly state the reasons for the extension and the duration of the absence.
  • The application should be submitted through CIF’s grant management system. In the system, the application form can be found under the section “Reporting.”
