What is funded?

An application must clearly demonstrate relevance to sport to be eligible for funding. CIF uses a broad definition of sport. Read more about the CIF definition of relevance to sport.

The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science (CIF) is announcing grants for organising events to present or discuss the outcomes of sports research. The objectives of these events should be:

  • disseminating sports research findings to relevant groups, both within and outside the scientific community, or
  • creating opportunities for collaboration between sports researchers, or networking between researchers and others involved in sports research.

With this grant, CIF aims to target both new and established associations and networks.

The grant should be used to organise conferences, seminars, network meetings, workshops, or other relevant events where the results of sports research are shared and discussed. Associations must use the grant for a specific purpose within their regular activities. The grant cannot cover costs for printing and production, nor can it be used to fund courses.

Who can apply?

  • The main applicant must have submitted the final report of a previous CIF grant on time.
  • The main applicant should hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree.
  • Eligible associations and networks are:
    • Non-profit associations with an organisational number. The grant will be administered by the organisation.
    • Networks at Swedish higher education institutions (HEIs). The grant will be managed by the HEI to which the main applicant is affiliated.
  • Researchers may submit one application for a project grant, one application for postdoc salary funding and one application for a grant for associations, networks and collaboration as the main applicant.

How do I apply?

The application is done in CIF’s online grant management system. Make sure to apply well in advance of the application deadline. The application should be signed using BankID before the application system closes. If you do not have a BankID, please contact CIF’s office well before the application deadline.

The application can be written in Swedish or English.

Read about the application requirements in the guide for applicants.

Evaluation and decision

The applications are reviewed by external peer reviewers who are specifically appointed for this task. You will find them here. The evaluation process consists of two steps.  First, the relevance of the application to sport is assessed, followed by its quality. If an application is  considered not demonstrating any relvance to sport, it will not proceed to the quality assessment stage.

A three-point scale is used to assess the quality of the application. The final decisions on grant approval are made by the board of CIF.
